Abstract :
It is argued that more emphasis should be placed on teaching quality science in engineering schools. Examples of specific topics in an engineering program are given. These topics are: data analysis, product design, process design and control, and measurements. The topics which compose the body of knowledge, as defined by the American Society for Quality Control, for an engineer taking the Certified Quality Engineer Examination, could be used to develop a curriculum in quality science. Some of the topics could also be included in traditional engineering courses
