Abstract
Harmonic balance analysis and design of an injection-locked push-push oscillator is presented in this paper. Taking advantage of the inherent operation of the push-push oscillators, low-power injection signals can be amplified and their frequency doubled. A rigorous comparison between time- and frequency-domain simulations is presented to validate the design of the proposed circuit. The startup of the different oscillation modes that coexist for the same values of the circuit components and parameters is also investigated. Phase noise and stability analysis have also been carried out to evaluate the performance of the circuit. A 10 GHz injection-locked push-push oscillator has been used as demonstrator with good agreement between the different simulations and measurements.
