Abstract :
Issues pertaining to initial placement and future career development for students in technology degree programs are discussed. It is argued that the success of technologist careers depends to a large degree on their own planning and initiative. Career development plans and programs need to be implemented by employers to facilitate the growth and professional development of technologists. Companies also have to identify technology positions clearly and work with recruiters and graduates in improving the career match between the technologies and the job positions available. Faculty can contribute to the professional growth of technology by accurately portraying the profession and working to improve student written and oral communications skills
