Abstract :
In this paper, a physical model of a power system is used for the first time to study the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) stemmed from thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC). The physical models of the power system and the TCSC are described. The natural frequencies of the model machine shaft-system are measured by negative sequence current excitation method. The series resonance frequency of the stator circuit is calculated as well as measured. Several SSR phenomena, including the influence of metallic oxide valves (MOV), are then studied by such a physical model and some conclusions are drawn
