Abstract :
This paper addresses the problem of modelling FACTS devices for simulation studies concerning power systems stability and control. In the approach described here the dynamical behaviour of power electronic devices, such as STATCOM, SSSC and UPFC, are modelled based on current injection models. The performance of these FACTS models is reported during the utilisation of such FACTS devices to implement a new method of improving the transient stability margins of power systems, which consists of controlling directly the electrical torque of synchronous generators, just after the occurrence of a disturbance, by means of AC machine vector control.
