Abstract
Two new edge detecting schemes for coded mark inversion transmission are proposed. One of these edge detecting detectors is shown to be able to reject false alarm error while the other is able to reject wrong slot error. These new decoders were constructed and error rate performance was measured over an additive Gaussian noise channel. It is shown that a reduction in the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of as much as 0.8 dB can be obtained for the same error rate as when a decoder with a false alarm error rejection is used. Further, a larger jitter disturbance can be tolerated for the same SNR when the decoder with wrong slot error rejection is used. Several new probability of error formulae are also derived which are shown to predict the error rates accurately
