Abstract
A loop antenna of non-uniform current offers the potential of wideband impedance matching to a specified characteristic impedance. For characteristic impedances above 100 Omega, the antenna can operate over a wide bandwidth without a dielectric substrate backing. The antenna´s metallization alone cannot provide input impedances significantly less than 100 Omega, so backing must be used. The effects of including a dielectric substrate with the proposed wideband antenna are examined. Experimental data confirms the validity of the simulations.
