Abstract :
Multiple Description Coding (MDC) and Peer-to-Peer transmission protocols prove to be extremely effective in the transmission of multimedia contents for both their robustness and flexibility. As a matter of fact, they permit building efficient architectures for the transmission of three-dimensional video signals. The paper presents an MDC strategy for the transmission of 3D video signals consisting in multiple views and depth signals. The coded data are included in a matrix and FEC Reed-Solomon codes are then employed to generate a set of descriptions that are to be uploaded in the network by different peers. Packet classification strategies can affect the quality of the reconstructed 3D video sequence. As a matter of fact, different packet scheduling algorithms are compared under general transmission scenarios. Experimental results show that a classification strategy based on game theory improves the quality of the reconstructed sequence with respect to standard algorithms.
