Abstract
Existing telecommunication power systems used by BT are reliable, but take up too much floor space and require annual service visits. Two new systems using intelligent rectifiers and one-hour autonomy have been introduced which occupy half of the space of the existing systems. The IDS system covers the power range up to 50 kW, while the IXS system is recommended for use when the ultimate capacity of a system is expected to exceed 50 kW. Both systems may be expanded live. Enhanced battery management and monitoring allows the frequency of service visits to be reduced and full account has been taken of recovery from deep discharge with constant-power loads.
