  • Abstract
This paper presents a hybrid method that combines the flexibility of the finite-element method (FEM) in time domain with the efficiency of the FDTD scheme, where the connection between the FEM and FDTD regions is done by a stable interface. FE techniques are applied for both the spatial and the temporal discretization and arrive at an explicit-implicit time-stepping algorithm that is stable for time steps limited by the Courant condition for the FDTD region.
