  • Abstract
A novel reconfigurable single layer microstrip antenna fed using a coplanar waveguide through a cross-slot coupling combination range to achieve polarization diversity is investigated in the millimeter-wave. The cross-slot coupling combination allows for easy reconfigurability of the polarization diversities by incorporating switches in the feed network. The polarization diversity is obtained by switching four switches on the cross-slot coupling on and off. The antenna is designed on a high dielectric constant substrate (epsivr = 9.9), which is close to the dielectric constant of GaAs around 36 GHz and demonstrates the feasibility of integration of such an antenna structure into monolithic circuits. Simulated results validate this concept. This design demonstrates useful features for wireless communication applications and future planetary missions.
