Abstract
A novel adaptive channel coding scheme for progressive transmission of large images is proposed. The transmission time, low distortion reconstructed image and low complexity are most concerned in this paper. Adaptively adjustable length of parity codes is the main feature of such framework. The receiver can evaluate the status of the transmission channel based on the number of received error data and manage and relocate the corrupted data by incorporating a built-in decision making system to avoid any collapse of the reconstructed image. This establishes a source-channel coding with feedback scheme, which not only emphasizes the regions of interest through a progressive transmission strategy, but also compensates the effect of channel noise through an efficient feedback to achieve an efficient communication system.
