Abstract :
The various schemes of the terahertz emission from the laser-produced superluminous ionization front are investigated by solving exact Maxwell´s equations. The results obtained from the self-consistent theoretical model agree well with experiments. Optimal conditions for the most efficient generation of terahertz waves and possible schemes of superpower terahertz sources using ultrashort ionizing laser pulses are determined.
