Abstract :
Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the 3GPP upcoming technology for wireless communications. LTE makes use of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDM) for downlink and Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) for uplink transmission. SC-FDMA can be seen as a precoded version of OFDM which reduces the amplifier battery consumption at the user equipment. It is known that SC-FDMA BER behavior for Rayleigh channel is worse than that of OFDM mainly due to possibility of deep fading. However the existence of line of sight (LOS) greatly changes the fading behavior. This paper investigates the influence of the LOS on the SC-FDMA performance. Specifically the BER performance of SC-FDMA & OFDMA for different Rice factor K is studied.
