Abstract :
Photon counting system is widely used in the fields of biology; nuclear physics; medical physics and electronics [1-2]. This paper presents a designing method of single photon counting module, which has an extensive application in photon counting system. The module implements all the digital hardware behavior in field programmable gate array (FPGA). It attributes to the especial counting structure build in FPGA and high data transmission speed of PCI bus. The system can realize continuous counting in micro counting-time-slot with no error (given some restrictions), which can maintain nearly in infinite time period. In addition the paper introduces an application of this single photon counting module in electroluminescence in polymeric insulation materials study.
