Title :
The impact of changing markets and technologies on network strategies towards the 21st century
Abstract :
Telecommunications markets in the 1990s are categorized broadly into consolidation, growth, and expansion opportunities. The author briefly examines the role of changing markets and technological advances in network strategies as they progress toward the next century. Optical fiber has revolutionized telecommunications networks, with the main impact in the interexchange network. The next generation switching elements are being influenced by the effects of optical fiber related technology. The signaling and intelligence associated with networks are considered to be control elements, facilitating and enhancing the call process and capabilities. These parallel developments in transmission switching and control elements are being combined in the broadband integrated-services digital network (B-ISDN), concept
