Abstract :
This paper proposes a new design method for a digital power system stabilizer (PSS) by taking advantage of the digitalization of the excitation system of the generator. The proposed design methodology is based on the following basic procedures; i.e., firstly estimate an ideal frequency response for PSS according to the expected torque characteristics of a generator system, then transform the frequency response into an impulse response, finally frame a digital transfer function by means of the impulse response. To demonstrate the design method, a digital Δω input PSS is concretely designed for a synchronous generator; and the dynamic performance of the generator system is examined by the numerical simulations which are performed for the single machine to an infinite bus system
