Abstract
Based on the concepts of moment center and shape coefficient defined in this paper, a new unified method for fuzzy logic reasoning and defuzzification is developed for power system stabilisation applications. A simple analytical computation process supersedes the conventionally complicated process of conclusion mergence and defuzzification. It avoids effectively the contradiction between ideal membership functions and the center of area method. This makes fuzzy logic controllers (FLC) with ideal membership functions as fast as that with single-value membership functions. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective
