Abstract :
In this paper, we explored the possibility of using multilayer periodic structures to reduce the RFID antenna size while maintaining the required performance. Specific designs are laid out with two double-layer structures with L-C and L-L setups, respectively. As compared to a normal single-layer dipole, the new structures results in large size reductions while maintaining the self resonance and self tuned features. With the meander line shaping, the double- layer dipoles can be easily reduced by 50% without losing the performance requirements.
