Abstract :
This paper presents the Russian eighteen years experience of the generator electric brake used for improving of the power system dynamic stability. The bang-bang control is known to be used for dynamic brake. Ten years ago it was employed at the 1330-MW Zeya hydroelectric power plant for dynamic braking resistors. Some results of the experimental researches which have been obtained during of the development and commissioning of the unique control system are given. The basic research methods were as following: (1) control device laboratory testing with the physical model for power transmission system; (2) field testings in the power system with the emergency switching-off of the 500-kV transmission line; (3) experience analysis of the Zeya multiple generator electric brake and survey of the further exploration for 2010-MW Bureya hydroelectric power plant; (4) simulation of Zeya and Bureya dynamic brake action coordination
