  • Abstract
For small PV water pumping systems (<400 W), DC submersible pumps are the preferred products. Various products are available (DC-DC converters) to match the PV array and motor characteristics. Depending on the number of modules in series and in parallel to achieve the required power levels, the appropriate controller model and settings need to be observed. The purpose of this work is to investigate the possibility of producing a single controller that can satisfy all needs, including applications where higher power levels (up to 4 kW) are required to achieve the goals set, it is necessary to review the function of the DC-DC controller and follow a systems approach. This has resulted in the development of a “matrix system” where the DC-DC converter function has been built back into the PV module. The new system operation is compared with the conventional approach utilizing a single DC-DC converter
