Abstract :
The authors analyze an evolving service-independent intelligent network (IN) architectural platform. This IN architecture and its platform capabilities are evolvable from existing IN implementations. Existing INs offer the PTTs the benefits of early service revenues and operational experience. The evolving platform described here offers the flexibility for a larger variety of services, faster feature introduction, and greater customer control. Some possible synergies between IN and the integrated services digital network (ISDN) are also discussed. The authors describe some industry and standards activities on IN
