Abstract :
Three new erbium-doped planar optical amplifier concepts are demonstrated: Eu and Yb co-doping to increase the gain; Si nanocrystals as sensitizers to replace the pump laser by a broad-band light source; and electrical pumping in a rare earth doped electroluminescent polymer.
