Abstract
• Current ongoing deployment establishes the foundation for ATM - FMS, GPS and Augmentation Systems, RNP, ADS-B, CPDLC - SESAR Step 1 leverages past investments - Limiting the impact on the major part of the aircraft fleet • Further steps: Implementers need to design flexible and scalable solutions • Global standardization is key to interoperability - To enable a large retrofit, standards should define the minimum requirements • ATM improvement is not only about technologies - Institutional and Operational changes are required - Involves controllers, pilots, air and ground engineers, procedure designers, standardization, regulators, etc.
