Weather harmonisation: Contributions of the FAA´s NNEW program, and lessons learned

• Standards-based approaches tend to be vetted by broad community, and are more general solutions as a result • Fundamental basis of sitational awareness and interoperability among FAA, US and international partners - FAA Towers, TRACONs, etc - Airline, DoD and NWS - Eurocontrol, SESAR partners • Avoids vendor lock-in: mixture of COTS and open implementations often available, or become available over time • Facilitates development and adoption of common data access and support services • Reduces time, cost, and complexity of new data integration, for both producers and consumers
