Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Summary form only given. The author made a presentation on the integrated services digital network (ISDN) demonstration in February 1990 between AT&T of the US, and KDD and NTT of Japan. The demonstration utilized terminals from Japanese and US vendors, all operating on basic rate interfaces (BRIs) multiplexed via AT&T´s 4ESS-based primary rate ISDN interface, and switched digital international service at 64 kb/s from New York City utilizing the AT&T-KDD international network to NTT ISN basic rate ISDN interfaces at demonstration sites in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. Based on the experiences of AT&T, KDD, and NTT, the author provided an overview of the trial including the architecture and terminals involved. Compatibility and interoperability issues at the interface and application levels were also addressed
