Abstract :
This paper presents the results and experiences from the SIAMO project, a work carried out by the assisted mobility group of the Electronics Department of the University of Alcala, in Spain. The main objectives of the project are the design and testing of modular electronics systems fitted to a suitable architecture that can deal with the different needs of potential users. Modularity is one of the advantages of the designed architecture: a standard serial bus is used to link different modules that can be installed or removed easily and quickly over a unique standard basic platform. Action lines of the SIAMO team include: human-machine interfaces, design and testing of new driving and commanding modes, sensory systems to improve safety and navigational skills, and control architectures to implement autonomous navigation with a minimum cost on both the building and wheelchair.
