Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis in both electromagnetic and mechanical aspects to discuss the guidelines for designing Halbach array magnets used in linear electrical machines. We show first the analytical approach for magnetic field of Halbach array permanent magnets, and then introduce an analytical methodology of flexures of plates that are used for fixing the PM array. The calculated results reveal the magnetic stress distributed along the array, and the plate deflection and tensile stress as a function of plate thickness.
