The effects of telematics, the combined technology of telecommunications and information on the home, the office, the workplace, education, specialized institutions such as medicine and religion, and the culture at large, is illustrated. Some of the short-term and long-term corporate, organizational, and public policy issues resulting from telematics are discussed. Some notice is given to the next round of telematics technology likely to have major effects, i.e. artificial intelligence, including expert systems, visualization, translation, and speech generation and recognition
