Abstract
This paper introduces a comprehensive approach to the study of energy management for all electric ships. Starting from an analysis of the characteristics of the power systems on board of future ships, the paper describes some of the control challenges and the role of energy storage in the definition of overall system stability. The theoretical description is then supported with some preliminary simulation results.
