  • Abstract
A new technology for spatially localizing acoustic backscatter called VS-CAATI (Virtual and Sub-array Computed Angle-of-Arrival Transient Imaging) is proposed in this paper. The new technology can jointly estimate DOA and amplitude at the same time. The principles underlying VS-CAATI, which are based on virtual array processing and sub-array technology, are presented in detail in the paper. VS-CAATI is easily implemented and offers dramatic improvements over conventional CAATI. Furthermore, this technique is superior to some other DOA estimation methods.
