Abstract :
Summary Form only given, as follows. A multiframe ion pinhole camera has been developed to record energy-density profiles of the PBFA-II (Particle Beam Fusion Accelerator II) ion beam as a function of ion energy. Because the average energy of the beam ions is typically a monotically decreasing function of time, the energy-resolved images are snapshots of the beam at different times during the PBFA-II power pulse. Beam ions that scatter from a thin gold foil are imaged onto six separate areas of a sheet of CR-39. Each of the areas is covered by a range filter and records an image with a different lower bound on the ion energy. Subtracting images with adjacent cutoff energies results in images with upper and lower bounds on the ion energy. For proton beams, energy resolution is also obtained with track diameter measurements, Monte Carlo simulations have been performed to characterize the sensitivity and geometric distortion of the camera.<>
