Abstract
Monitoring aqueous systems using Near InfraRed (NIR) light is possible due to vibrational overtone and combination water bands located around 1400-1450nm which are highly sensitive to changes in hydrogen bonds. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) in the NIR wavelength range offers the potential to gain information on the spatial distribution of water structures in aqueous solutions. This study examines the feasibility of obtaining NIR hyperspectral images of aqueous solutions using laboratory based transflectance setup. Water samples were subjected to different perturbations, i.e. changing temperature and salt content and thin layer NIR HSI transflectance images were obtained. The potential for mapping salt concentration and temperature in aqueous solutions was investigated.
