Abstract
A novel instrument for measuring edge angles of knives was developed. This instrument is capable of nondestructive and non-attached measurement. A light-sectioning technique was used for the measurement wherein laser beam was divided into two parallel beams and which were made planar by a cylindrical lens. These two beams illuminated the object knife edge which was set aslant to the beam. Thus we can observe two wedge-shaped lines when we observe a direction normal to it. We can calculate the edge angle from the angle made by these lines and the interval of lines. This instrument enables accurate and simple measurement of the edge angles of knives
