Abstract
In this paper the operation of brushless exciter is investigated and a suitable model for use in time-domain simulation of power systems is derived. An efficient voltage-behind-reactance synchronous machine model is used for the exciter. The theoretical equations, describing the operation of rotating rectifier in three rectification modes are derived. The proposed model was verified in time domain against detailed model simulation and experimental results.
