Abstract :
A technique to measure the carrier linewidth of pulse sources is newly proposed based on the optical heterodyne method. The carrier linewidths of two pulse sources, a gain-switched DFB-LD (GS pulse source) and a sinusoidally driven monolithically integrated MQW-DFB-LD/MQW-EA modulator (EA pulse source), are measured. The respective measured carrier linewidths, 250 MHz and 4 MHz, reflect the different pulse formation processes
