High speed indexing of a chain based conveyor

This paper describes the research being undertaken into the position control of high speed, chain based, indexing conveyors. The design and construction of the laboratory test rig is described and the performance results for the system operating under PID control are presented. Factors causing performance degradation are identified and the advantages and disadvantages of using PID controllers is discussed
