Abstract
The integration of techniques and methods of manufacturing systems requires a cooperation between workshop and design departments according to a common representation of the production systems. We present a representation of the pro classification of the processes flowing across the automated production unit. Processes express what should be done in the automated production unit. They make no reference to the resources which effect the tasks. By means of this process-based analysis, we have achieved a simple representation that can be understood conjointly by users and designers. So we give some tools for the evaluation of implications concerning the technical and organisational choices in engineering design and for the enrichment of knowledge and know-how of production systems
