Abstract :
The Benes network is extended in two dimensions. The control algorithm for the 2-D network is described, and the complexities of the 1-D and 2-D architectures are compared. It is shown that the 2-D Benes network has some advantages over the 1-D Benes network. The number of stages in the 2-D network is smaller than the corresponding number in the 1-D network. Also, the 2-D network requires fewer switching modules than the 1-D network
