Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. We present results from time-dependent collisional-radiative calculations to investigate the properties of moderate density plasmas in light ion fusion experiments at Sandia National Laboratories. Our models are applied to studies of ion beam transport in the PBFA-II Ar gas cell. In this case, electron densities are 10/sup 16/-10/sup 18/ cm/sup -3/ while experimental time scales are 10/sup -9/-10/sup -8/ sec. In our analysis, atomic level populations are obtained from the solution of multilevel time-dependent atomic rate equations. Calculated spectra are obtained by solving radiation transport equations. We compare our preliminary results with experimental spectra.
