Abstract
Active contour based on Level Set Method (LSM) has been widely used in image segmentation. In this paper, a novel speed function for image segmentation is proposed to enable the evolving front to enter into a long, thin blind-hole and overcome gaps in data based on a predefined threshold during the segmentation. Experimental results show that the novel speed function can solve both of the problems. In addition, the proposed speed function has the ability to be combined with other existing powerful speed function.
