Notes from the HotOS-VIII workshop hot topics in operating systems: 21-23 May 2001, Schloss Elmau, Germany

The opening remarks were delivered by the program chair, Marc Shapiro. He welcomed everyone to the first session and thanked Jochen Liedtke (General Chair) and Gerd Liefliinder for their efforts in organizing the conference. He also pointed out that the Program Committee had reviewed over 100 submissions and were forced to choose only 24 of them. The best student paper award was given to David Andersen for his work on Resilient Overlay Networks. The various conference sessions are then briefly reviewed.
