Abstract
Detailed reports on power system fault histories are now available, leading to a new quality of fault analysis. The sequence of events and the reactions of the power system protection relay during network disturbances become transparent and reproducible. The described general aspects have been discussed in detail in other papers and the benefits have been proven in practical service by thousands of numerical relays for about ten years.
