Title :
The status of R&D for the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
The following aspects of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) R&D program are discussed in detail: machine R&D, hardware development, detector R&D, and other R&D issues. Prototype superconducting magnets and cryostats have been tested. Detailed designs have been prepared for the arc sections, the insertion regions, and injection and ejection systems. The RF system has undergone significant revisions in order to enhance the experimental capability of the RHIC. Progress has been made with the design of detectors. A management information system is being put in place in anticipation of an expeditious start of construction
