Abstract :
Large-scale timing distribution and synchronization based on mode-locked lasers is discussed. The noise of low-jitter mode-locked lasers is characterized. Amplitude-to-phase conversion in photodetection is measured and a scheme avoiding this conversion is proposed and demonstrated.
