Abstract :
This paper explores the use of recorded lectures in formats for mobile devices (Video iPod and PDA) in a graduate computer science program using a software system developed at this university. Recordings are converted to formats for mobile devices along with an interface that allows students to subscribe to a course to receive automatic lecture downloads. The technology, pedagogy, student perceptions of the technology, and impact on educational success is explored in this paper. The mobile device lectures are in addition to the existing distance-learning option that allows students to attend live lectures by using a Web browser, and to view recorded lectures. Students self-select whether to attend on-campus in the classroom, attend live over the Internet, or to view the recorded lectures
