  • Abstract
    A new error concealment technique based on the coding modes is proposed for H.264 video sequences. The motion-compensation modes (i.e., block-partitioning types) of surrounding macroblocks are employed to predict the mode of a lost macroblock. This adaptive selection mechanism is combined with a refined set of candidate motion vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method, as compared to the technique used in the JM reference software, provides 1 to 2 dB gain in PSNR with only 50% increase in computation time.
