Abstract :
In this paper, small data transmission at the detached machine-type-communication (MTC) device in 3GPP LTE environment is investigated. A cell-based dynamic preamble grouping mechanism is proposed to suppress the collision probability in the random access process for small data transmission based on the realistic distribution of MTC devices in each LTE cell. The related signaling messages are discussed. It has been shown that the proposed method can significantly reduce the collision probability and provide a potentiality to support more classes of small data services. Energy at MTC devices hence can be utilized in a more efficient manner.
