  • Abstract
This paper presents a new modular hybrid power system incorporating photovoltaic and small scale wind generators connected to an AC grid formed by a doubly fed induction generator driven by a variable speed diesel generator operating in the optimum fuel efficiency mode. Preliminary experimental and simulation results of the DFIG are included. The system is proposed to replace medium scale diesel-only power stations experiencing significant variation between the peak loads and the minimum loads resulting in high fuel and maintenance costs.
