Abstract :
This paper presents the measured impedance at the relaying point in the presence of STATic synchronous COMpensator (STATCOM), in the case of two different models for STATCOM. The presence of STATCOM on a transmission line greatly affects the measured impedance at the relaying point. The measured impedance itself depends on the power system structural conditions, pre-fault conditions, and especially the ground fault resistance. In the presence of STATCOM, its structural and controlling parameters as well as its installation position affects the tripping characteristic. Here, the measured impedance at the relaying point is calculated due to the mentioned affecting parameters, including the selected model for STATCOM.
